Great Skin Standards

Believe it or not it's not always about looking younger, it is truly about looking and feeling your very best. As more and more spas are gaining popularity in our society they are no longer being seen as a luxury, even in the rough economic times we are in. We live in a time where injectables, laser treatments and microdermabrasion are as much of a beauty necessity as a haircut.

There's a lot of talk lately about the concept of anti-aging. With breakthrough technologies, innovative skincare products and a better understanding of the aging process as a whole we have an entire arsenal at our disposal to fight the effects of time and the environment. We have to understand that AGING IS INEVITABLE. However, the prescription for looking and feeling your very best no matter what your age is to CONTROL THE QUALITY OF THE AGING PROCESS. The key word here: PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION!

Behold the 6 commandments for great skin: (The other 4 shall come later)

1. Thou shalt take a nutritional supplement. Vitamins can help replenish the body, contributing to overall systemic health. These products can help assist in preventing free radical damage and inflammation (2 causes of aging in the skin.) And while you're at it drink plenty of water!

2. Honor thy sunblock. The sun is the #1 culprit for aging. The sun's damaging ultraviolet rays, even indirect sunlight, produce free radicals in the skin that deplete collagen resources and contribute to photoaging, pigmentation and fine lines.

3. Remember thy skincare & keep it holy. Having a daily regimen is extremely important to prevent and correct skin issues. Cleansing loosens the bond between dirt, oil and dead skin cells from healthy skin. Toner balances the pH in the skin and allows a moisturizer to penetrate even deeper. Antioxidant serums can correct existing damage by stimulating the synthesis of essential proteins and fibers and accelerating cell turnover. Moisturizers help fortify and renew the skin with nutrients that seal in moisture while protecting against harsh environmental elements and toxins. Worship your skin care twice a day!

4. Thou shalt smile! Focus on the positive aspects of life. Stress and negative energy can show up in the form of breakouts, hives and blotchy skin. There is a very powerful connection between your skin and emotions. If you think you are harboring stress & negative feelings find a secure place to free these emotions. Daily meditation, yoga and exercise can "cleanse" your body from the inside out.

5. Thou shall not smoke. Period.

6. Do not covet thy neighbor's skin. Everyone deserves to have healthy and radiant skin. What works well for one person can't possibly work well for thousands. Skincare is NOT one size fits all! Invest the time and money into your skin by seeing a professional esthetician. Your personal consultant will analyze your skin, talk with you about your concerns and work with you to develop a treatment plan customized for you. At Innovative Aesthetics, my treatments are designed to be as individualized as your face itself.

Ok, so I don't have tablets of stone.... But consider this your "Great Skin Standard" and do not worship any other false idols!

Bottom line, there are a lot of changes that begin to happen to our features as the years begin to tick away. We are incredibly lucky to live in an era where advancements in the beauty industry go above and beyond expectations. Thanks to this great blog I'm hoping to help you become empowered to age as gracefully and beautifully as possible.
